Effort Data Description

The format of the effort dataset is based on SAMMOA (specialised software for aerial observation campaigns of marine megafauna).

Effort data must be in .CSV

It must contain specific columns, in these writing and description:

status : composed of following sections with BEGIN/ADD/END (in these writing)
LegID : must regroup unique section of BEGIN/ADD/END
TransectID : group of several 'LegID' (depending on survey)
DateTime : in the format '1994-11-30 11:55:00'
Longitude and ' Latitude ' are numeric without NA

Sighting Data Description

Sighting data must be in .CSV

It must contain specific columns, in this spelling and description:

Species : column with name of the different species.
GroupeSize : number of individual in the observation.
Side : on which Side is the observation, can be 'L' or 'R'.
DateTime : in the format '2005-01-03 20:01:42'
PerpDist : perpendicular distance.
LegID / ' TransectID' must be commun to effort table.
Latitude / ' Longitude'

Associate

Association between effort table and sightings

In this section, sightings are associated with the effort table. The number of sightings is tallied by species in each segment.

It is possible to run it for all species or for a selected species.

The effort table produced consists of two new columns: det.species (the number of detections in the segment) and ind.species (the number of individuals detected in the segment).

Errors during association

Please note that the association may fail if there are errors in the time between the effort and the observations.

This occurs when the observation time is not between the ‘Start’ time and the ‘End’ time of any segment.

A warning message will provide you general information, and you will be able to download the .CSV file containing all observations deleted from the association.
